Home      The Cottage

Huntsmans Cottage has been meticulously renovated, blending the warmth of an 18th century house with the very best comforts of 21st Century living.  Interior designed and furnished to the highest standard, the house offers extensive and luxurious accommodation.

Reception Rooms: The house has three main reception rooms.  The sitting room is the most formal room in what is the oldest part of the house.  Fully timbered, this large room has a wood burning stove set into a large double inglenook and is furnished with comfy chairs, a large sofa and antique tables and display cabinets.  The Snug is also fully timbered with a wood burning stove and inglenook and is furnished with leather club chairs, two leather sofas and a plasma screen with Sky and DVD player.  There is also a large family room off the kitchen which has a more contemporary feel with two large sofas, tub chairs, bean bags and the largest plasma screen in the house - which is built into a floor-to-ceiling book and DVD library.  Each reception room has French windows leading out onto the front and back terraces that are wrapped around the entire house.  All the reception rooms have far reaching views of the surrounding countryside.

Cooking and eating: There is a large painted farm house kitchen with AGA, separate electric oven, large stainless steel American fridge/freezer with chilled water and icemaker, separate drinks fridge, dishwasher, free standing butcher’s block and plenty of granite work surfaces.  At the other end of the kitchen is a breakfast room with 17th century English breakfast table that can comfortably seat eight people, with Welsh and Irish dressers to each side.  Next door is a more formal dining room with a 14’ oak table that can comfortably sit 14 people.  All these rooms have antique timber flooring and are decorated with a blend of farmhouse furniture and contemporary art.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms.  The house can sleep up to 13 people in four double bedroom suites, one attic suite (with four single beds) and a small downstairs single bedroom.  The main bedroom suite has a dressing room with floor-to-ceiling timbered wardrobes, a large double bedroom with plasma and DVD and full length four panel French windows leading onto a timber balcony overlooking the rose bed and fields beyond.  The ultra modern en suite has a large shower, double basins, double bath and loo.  It is decorated with Italian mosaic tiles.  The white bedroom has cottage windows looking out over the front and back gardens with a half timber wall separating the large double bedroom with plasma and DVD from an open bathroom with roll top bath and oversized sink leading to a separate loo.  The double aspect corner bedroom has a double bed, plasma and DVD player and leads onto a separate en suite with a modern bathroom, sink and loo.  The secret bedroom can be found at the top of a hidden staircase in the oldest part of the house.  It has a large double bedroom with original 18th century floorboards, cottage windows looking over the front and back gardens, plasma and DVD player, walk in wardrobe and a separate en suite with roll top bath, twin basins and loo.  The attic bedroom has the best view from the house.  It has two single beds with two additional roll-out singles which can we set up in the bedroom or in the attic landing – ideal as a dormitory room for children or for extra guests.  The room has a television and walk-in wardrobe.  The attic suite has a separate shower/wet room and a separate room housing the loo and sink.  The study bedroom is located off the Snug on the ground floor and has a single bed, dressing table and tiny separate en suite loo and sink.  It is small but ideally suited for children, an extra guest or those who have difficulty with stairs.  There is a separate downstairs cloakroom off the dining hall.  Like the reception rooms, each of the bedroom suites have far reaching views of the fields, hedgerows and spinneys that surround the house.

Courtyard rooms: The house has a very large boot room with separate doors to the courtyard and to the front of the house, together with a laundry room with large American top-loading washing machine and tumble dryer.  The gravel courtyard is walled and fully secure for parking, storage or as a safe outside space for children or pets.

Gardens: The front garden has a large lawn and an east facing terrace running the full length of the old part of the house, separated by a lavender bed and with outside table, six chairs and parasol.  A secure side gate takes you through to the back garden with very large west and south facing terraces and an extendable table with ten chairs and over-size parasol.  The back garden is terraced on three levels, with raised herbaceous borders and steps up to a croquet lawn (set provided), side lawns with fruit trees and an over-size hammock and four lazy chairs.  A raised gravel garden runs alongside the main rose bed and has a low table and four chairs arranged under a tree to keep cool in the summer months.  Young children need supervision throughout in the back garden because of its many levels.

Meadow and surrounding countryside: Immediately opposite the house – across Huntsmans Lane - is a two and a half acre meadow which comes as part of the house.  The meadow is kept mown to allow for cricket, rounders and other family games.  Guests should note that there is a public right of way across the field, although it is little used by walkers.  There are several excellent walks from the house across the surrounding fields and countryside (see house guide on arrival).
