Huntsmans Cottage lies just a quarter of a mile outside the pretty village of Foxearth. The house is 3 miles from Long Melford, a big centre for the antiques trade. It has several excellent pubs and restaurants, the best of which is the Black Lion Hotel opposite Melford Hall – together with two good butchers and all the usual village shops. The pretty village of Cavendish is also 3 miles from the house, with a good family restaurant called The George, a village pub and a picturesque village green. Historic Lavenham is just 7 miles away and is world famous as one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval towns in Britain. It has good pubs and hotels and a highly rated restaurant – The Great House. The market town of Sudbury is just five miles from the house and has a weekly market together with branches of Waitrose, Tesco and Marks and Spencer Simply Food, together with the usual shops and facilities. Further afield, Bury St Edmunds is some 15 miles north of the house and has plenty of shops and family attractions.
For day trips, the house is within about an hours’ drive of the Suffolk coast, the Essex coast and Mersea Island, and to numerous regional attractions, some of which are listed below:
